So you came off the pill and didn’t get your period, and then came the diagnosis: PCOS. Maybe the doctor said, “go back on the pill, don’t worry about it until you want to get pregnant,” or “try X diet to lose weight, that’s how you stay healthy with PCOS, and here’s some metformin.” Maybe you knew this wasn’t enough and you went down the Instagram scroll/Google search rabbit hole, only to be left feeling like nothing you were doing was enough. You’ve probably tried EVERYTHING, or at least are feeling super overwhelmed with your PCOS and have no idea where to start.
The thing is, PCOS is complex - it affects not just your ovaries, but every cell in your body, from your brain to your skin, down to your cardiovascular system and even your digestion. There are indeed nutrition & lifestyle interventions you can do in order to manage your symptoms and improve your fertility, but dieting can actually do a lot more harm than good. Due to a variety of genetic, hormonal, and social factors, people with PCOS are up to 4 times more likely to develop an eating disorder (particularly bulimia and binge eating disorder), and the biggest predictor of disordered eating is actually dieting itself.
